about

The album’s titular first single, Eastern Bound For Glory, represents a creative breakthrough that informed the emotionality and music of the rest of the album. “I remember thinking when I wrote it ‘this is a little different, this isn’t a folk song,” Kathryn reveals. The track is a majestic slice of indie-rock replete with dramatic dynamics, lush strings, and prominently features Kathryn’s guitar playing and orchestral arrangements. The imagery captured in the lyrics is gathered from Kathryn’s life on the road during an intense period of international touring. This sonic scrapbook dedicates a verse to each of the cardinal directions. “The song is an attempt to make sense of the experiences I came home with. It is really about reckoning with the past to move forward,” Kathryn explains.

lyrics

EASTERN BOUND FOR GLORY

We are eastern bound for glory
Listen up now he has a story
Language spoken like no other
Be my sister, I’ll be your brother
Through the trees she sees the sun
Has burnt the hills down
He is pleased with every mile
Stretching her smile

In the south lands fires are fading
Three AM she lies awaiting
In the next bed scattered covers
Promise promise we won’t be lovers
Waves and sand
Run and run as fast as you can
Arms are tired of holding everyone
In the setting sun

Western skies are for the taking
Mesmerized by what she’s making
Weave a pattern, pedal heavy
Morning prayers in your silver Chevy
Wind the road with a heavy load
Of sound and secret signs
See the lines but he crosses them
Sing my favorite hymn

Northern lights keep burning steady
Cross the city are you ready?
Turn your face to, the shadowed sun
Tell your soldier to put down their gun
In hot water
A southern belle’s rowdy daughter
Peace has come from underground
From that sound
